Alumni News | Jim Montgomery named Head Coach of NHL’s Dallas Stars

Ottawa, ON – The Central Canada Hockey League is proud to announce that Pembroke Lumber Kings alumni Jim Montgomery has been named the Head Coach of the NHL’s Dallas Stars.

Montgomery (48) played for the Lumber Kings during the 1988-89 season, totaling 154 points (53G, 101A) in 50 games. The Montreal, QC native went on to spend 4 seasons at the University of Maine before playing parts of 9 seasons between the NHL and AHL before he got into the coaching side of the game.

He would land his first coaching gig as an Assistant Coach for the University of Notre Dame in 2005-06 before moving on to RPI as an Assistant from 2006-10.  From there, he would take his first Head Coaching gig with the USHL’s Duboque Fighting Saints in 2010-11, spending three seasons at the helm where he also acted as the teams General Manager. 

Montgomery would head back to the NCAA in 2013-14, this time as a Head Coach, leading the University of Denver behind the bench up until the conclusion of this past season. With the Pioneers, he had a 102-47-18 record.

He becomes the 8th Head Coach in Dallas Stars history.
