Ottawa, ON — The CCHL saw four teams in action Wednesday night as Kemptville and Ottawa walked away with wins.
Kemptville 4, Nepean 3
The Kemptville 73’s claimed a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Nepean Raiders, rallying after Nepean’s opening-period goal by Campbell. Kemptville answered with a strong second period, as Bennett scored early to tie the game, followed by Beaulieu’s goal to take the lead. Nepean’s Dickey tied it again, but Kemptville pulled ahead with Stubbings’ late-period goal. Nepean leveled the score once more just before the period ended, as Konobelj scored on a power play. In the final period, Bennett’s power-play goal at 3:03 proved to be the game-winner, as Kemptville held off Nepean’s late efforts. Despite being outshot 44-35, Kemptville’s goalie Donovan made 41 saves, securing the win with stellar netminding. Both teams capitalized on one power play each, but Kemptville’s resilience and clutch performance ultimately earned them the victory.
Ottawa 3, Carleton Place 2
In a tight matchup, the Ottawa Junior Senators edged out the Carleton Place Canadians 3-2 in a shootout. After a scoreless first period marked by a few penalties, Carleton Place opened the scoring in the second with Prud’homme’s goal at 13:18, followed by an Ottawa equalizer from Brennan at 16:07. Carleton Place regained the lead with Hartnell’s goal at 17:38. In the third, Ottawa tied it up again with Matsukubo’s power-play goal at 5:45. The teams remained deadlocked through overtime despite Ottawa’s penalty trouble, leading to a shootout where Brennan scored the lone goal, securing Ottawa’s victory. Carleton Place outshot Ottawa 31-29 but went 0-for-6 on power plays, while Ottawa converted one of their four opportunities.
