The second and final day of the 2024-25 season opening showcase had some great matchups on the docket.
Headlining this was the always classic matchup between the Pembroke Lumber Kings and the Carleton Place Canadians. This one did not disappoint as fans saw goals a plenty. Which was the name of the weekend (sorry goalies) as we saw 85 goals scored over the weekend for an average of 7 per team. The Cornwall Colts led the way with 12 of them. Of note, the Rockland Nationals only gave up 1 goal all weekend. Impressive feat. As fate would have it, Cornwall will travel to Rockland for a game on Sept 20.
As has been the case for many seasons, scouts from all levels were out in full force. Schools from NCAA (Div 1 and 3), OHL, QMJHL and even the NHL were on hand to see what our players had to offer. In speaking with many scouts, its safe to say they were impressed with what they saw. Expect some commitment notices to come out over the next few months.
Now that teams are off and running, teams now gear up for their own home openers with the first one taking place this Thursday night (Sept 19) as we have a battle between the Hawkesbury Hawks and the Cornwall Colts.
