Sunday Recap: Kemptville Responds, CP Dominates

Ottawa, Ont. —

The Kemptville 73’s responded to the public challenge of head coach Rob Dopson in a big way on Sunday, as they downed the Navan Grads 5-1.

Goaltender Peter Brooks stole the show with 41 saves for the 73’s, who entered a hostile barn on the Grads’ Navan Night and escaped with their first road win of 2017-18.

In other results, the Rockland Nationals, Carleton Place Canadians and Pembroke Lumber Kings each picked up victories.

Sunday afternoon’s Nepean-Smiths Falls contest was postponed due to ice conditions at the Nepean Sportsplex.

Kemptville 5, Navan 1

Uncommitted goaltender Peter Brooks continued his stellar start to the campaign for Kemptville, turning aside 41 of 42 shots as the 73’s (2-5-0) knocked off the Grads (2-5-0).

Forward Alec Taillon netted a pair of goals in the win for Kemptville; the Terrebonne, Quebec native now leads all CCHL rookies with four goals.

Keenan Reynolds had the lone goal in the loss for Navan; the former OHLer now sits tied with Ottawa’s Nick Lalonde for the league scoring lead (eight goals).

Rockland 5, Kanata 3

The Rockland Nationals overcame a 3-1 first-period deficit to hand the Kanata Lasers their third-straight defeat.

Star 20-year-old Mathieu Blanchette scored the game-winning goal for the Nats (4-1-2) late in the second period, while Connor Rider had two goals in the loss for Kanata (3-5-0).

Rookie Sam Allison scored his first CCHL goal for the Canadians, while Cornwall leading scorer Chris Theodore potted two goals in the defeat.

Pembroke 4, Brockville 1

The Pembroke Lumber Kings battened down the hatches and ground out a 4-1 win in their home opener Sunday over the visiting Brockville Braves.
