Saturday Recap: Blowout wins for CP and Ottawa

Hawkesbury 3, Brockville 0

Chris Smith announced his return to full health with authority on Saturday in Rockland, where his hat-trick led the Hawkesbury Hawks to a 3-0 win over Brockville.

Matthew Petizian registered a 31-save shutout for the Hawks (7-4-0), while Justin Evenson stopped 21 of 23 in the loss for the Braves (8-7-0).

Captain David Jankowski had assists on all three of Smith’s goals.

Carleton Place 6, Pembroke 0

Jeremie Forget’s second-straight shutout was a secondary story on Saturday night in Pembroke, where the visiting Carleton Place Canadians dominated the hometown Lumber Kings en route to a 6-0 win.

Six different players — Connor Hill, Justin Cmunt, Zach Tupker, Haydn Hopkins,  Peyton Francis and Arik Breton — scored in the win for Carleton Place (12-2-1), which outshot Pembroke (7-6-0) 48-21.

The Canadians have now won five of their last six contests.

Ottawa 5, Cornwall 2

Silas Mattawashish netted twice as the Ottawa Jr. Senators claimed a 5-2 win over the visiting Cornwall Colts on Saturday night.

Conor Smart, Danyk Drouin and P.-L. Veillette had the other goals for Ottawa (11-2-1), while Justin McRae and David Poirier scored in the loss for Cornwall (6-7-1).

Cornwall has now lost four of its last five games.
