Power Rankings: Week 12

Carlos Verde, Communications Manager

  1. Carleton Place Canadians (27-2-2) (CJHL #1) | LW: 1 (–) | Results: 3-2W @ COR, 6-2W @ KAN, 4-1W v ROC | The top-ranked Junior-A team in the nation continued to impress in Week 12, allowing just five goals over three games en route to three wins.
  2. Ottawa Jr. Senators (22-4-3) (CJHL #8) | LW: 2 (–) | Results: 6-2W @ BRO, 4-3W @ NAV | Ottawa’s comeback in the final 92 seconds of Sunday’s contest in Navan was pure ridiculous. That said, Marty Dagenais’s team still looks more vulnerable to the upset than Jason Clarke’s Canadians. OJS rose to #8 in the national Top-20 this week — stick taps all around.
  3. Pembroke Lumber Kings (15-10-1) | LW: 4 (+1) | Results:  3-2W @ NEP, 4-0L v COR  | It’s tough to bump Pembroke up following a shutout loss on home ice Sunday, but Dale McTavish’s team remains the most offensively-talented group outside the top-two.
  4. Brockville Braves (15-12-1) | LW: 3 (-1) | Results:  6-2L v OJS | Jesse Winchester’s group remains frustratingly inconsistent, and appears to be a lock for the 3-to-6 home ice battle in the second half. Ugly defeat on home ice, nonetheless.
  5. Hawkesbury Hawks (16-8-1) | LW: 6 (+1) | Results: 2-1OTW v COR, 3-2SOL @ KEM | Rick Dorval’s Hawks keep scraping out points despite their nomadic living situation; a shootout loss in Kemptville hurts, but given the circumstances Hawkesbury is facing, three of four points on any weekend is incredible.
  6. Smiths Falls Bears (10-14-3) | LW: 7 (+1) | Results:  3-0W v NEP | Don’t look now, but Mark Grady’s group has won four of its last five. If goaltender Bradley Dobson can bottle up his form from Friday’s shutout over Nepean, the Bears could become a threat in the second half.
  7. Cornwall Colts (13-12-4) | LW: 8  (+1) | Results: 3-2L v CP, 2-1OTL @ HAW, 4-0W @ PEM  | Liam Lascelle earned Player of the Week honours, and the Colts proved once again they can play anybody in the league tight. The 20-year-old netminder leads the league in minutes played by a country mile, and despite posting a respectable .920 save-% remains uncommitted.  They will go as far as he carries them.
  8. Kanata Lasers (12-13-3) | LW: 9 (+1) | Results:  7-3W v KEM, 6-2L v CP | The Lasers crushed Kemptville early last week, and were then subsequently soundly beaten by Carleton Place. As it stands, the Lasers are the definition of a .500 team — win one, lose one, so on and so forth.
  9. Nepean Raiders (10-15-1) | LW: 5 (-4) | Results:  3-0L @ SF, 3-2L v PEM | Annnnd Nepean’s offence has disappeared once again. Pembroke forward James Buckley’s last-gasp winner in Shawville hurt the Raiders big time, and Darcy Findlay’s group is now six points out of a playoff spot.
  10. Rockland Nationals (14-14-2) | LW: 10 (–) | Results: 5-2W v NAV, 4-1L @ CP  | The Nats still have a boatload of call-ups in the lineup, so their confident Friday-night win over Navan is impressive, but Dan Sauve’s team simply isn’t ready to compete with the league’s elite as it stands.
  11. Kemptville 73’s (6-22-1) | LW: 12 (+1) | Results: 7-3L @ KAN, 3-2SOW v HAW | The 73’s snapped a six-game skid on Sunday afternoon on the strength of Nick Bond’s performance in net, so they rise.  As has been said previously: Kemptville is a six- or seven-game winning streak away from being relevant in the playoff picture again.
  12. Navan Grads (8-20-0) | LW: 11 (-1)  | Results:  5-2L @ ROC, 4-3L v OJS | In six-ish years around this league, I’ve never seen a collapse like Navan’s on Sunday. Three goals in the final 92 seconds. Joseph Giacobbo’s 50-plus save performance all for naught. Tough times in Grads country.
