Fred Page Cup | Jr Senators pick up shootout victory, advance to Championship Game

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Jr Senators showed a lot of fight in their come-from-behind victory over Collège Français de Longueuil on Friday night.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the third period, the Jr Senators would claw their way back in the game, before winning it in the shootout to advance to the Fred Page Cup Championship Game.

Danny Pion would get the rally started as he would redirect a Joe Alexander point-shot to get the Jr Senators within one. Shortly after it would be Owen Guy setting up Adrien Bisson who floated into the slot and ripped the tying goal past Phillippe Savard-Masse.

After many back-and-forth opportunities for each team, the game would stay knotted 2-2 after 60 minutes and require extra time.  In overtime, Connor Hicks would make a number of big saves to keep the Jr Senators in the game. Both netminders would stand tall and a winner would have to be determined via the shootout.

Both teams would score one goal on their first three attempts but then there would be 5 rounds of zeros. After Longueuil missed on their 6th straight attempt, the Jr Senators would send Conor Smart over the boards, giving the recently turned 19-year old Keswick, ON native a huge opportunity. He would make no mistake, beating Savard-Masse high glove to come up clutch for Ottawa and give them berth in Sundays Championship game.

With the Jr Senators clinching  berth in the Championship game,  Collège Français de Longueuil will now face-off against the MHL’s Edmundston Blizzard in Saturday’s Semi-Final.
