CCM January Performers of the Month

Ottawa, Ontario – The Central Canada Hockey League is happy to announce its CCM Top Performers of the Month for January.

Player of the Month:

Ottawa Junior Senators star centre, Owen Guy has been named the CCM Player of the Month for January. Guy, 19, is coming off a month where he scored eight goals and 11 points over ten games. The Mountian, Ontario native also scored two game winning goals last month. Both coming against Kanata and one in overtime.

After winning the Star of the Month as well, Ottawa Head Coach Martin Dagenais was not surprised that Guy swept the monthly awards for January.

“I can’t say I’m surprised, he deserves every bit of the recognition he’s getting right now. He plays in every situation for us, and he was a huge part of a successful January for our team”.

The Lake Superior State commit (2018-19) is T-6th among league leaders in points with 51 and his 25 goals ranks fourth in the CCHL. He was also named the Gongshow First Star of the Month on Thursday.

This is now the second straight month that the Star of the Month has also been named the Player of the Month after Jankowski took home most of the hardware in December.

The Player of the Month honourable mentions go out to Travis Broughman of the Carleton Place Canadians and Rockland Nationals Jean-Sylvain Boyer.

Broughman, 20, scored five goals and tallied five assists over eight games last month, with four multi-point games.

Boyer, 18, netted six goals, nine points in five games, scoring in four of the five contests.

Rookie of the Month:

Smiths Falls Bears 16 year old defenseman, Bruce Coltart is the Rookie of the Month. The Kanata, Ontario native posted eight points, including three goals that came towards the end of the month.

Coltart believed his end of the month scoring came with the help of his teammates “It’s an exciting award to win but none of it could have happened without my teammates creating opportunities for me out there and them finishing off the ones I started”.

Bears Head Coach Mark Grady feels that his success has come with playing with a younger defensive core “He has taken major strides in his development over the last month or two. Bruce is extremely energetic and confident with no fear to jump up in the play and contribute to the team’s offense”.

The un-committed rookie defenseman has 17 points in 41 games (7G/10A) which is second on the team in points from the backend behind his brother Ethan Coltart.

Our Rookie of the Month honourable mentions go out to Pembroke Lumber Kings forward Noah Maika and Brockville Braves defenseman Simon Mack.

Maika, 17, tallied two goals and eight assists over nine games with the Lumber Kings last month.

Mack, 16, posted three goals and four assists through six Braves games in January.

Goalie of the Month:

Taking home the Goalie of the Month is Ottawa Junior Senators 6’4 netminder Connor Hicks. Hicks, 20, went 8-0 in the month of January with two shut-outs and a 1.85GAA/9.30SV%.

“Connor has been a rock between the pipes for us since his arrival. We weren’t sure what to expect from him when he got here, but he came in with the right attitude, and has performed above our expectations. He’s also a great teammate who brings a veteran presence in our dressing room” explained Ottawa Head Coach, Martin Dagenais.

The former major junior goaltender committed to Dalhousie University (CIS) currently leads the league is save percentage at .945 and is second in the CCHL with a 1.59 goals against average.
