BROYDON STUFKO NAMED CCHL 2015-16 RBC/NIELSEN-PECKETT AWARD WINNER

The Central Canadian Hockey League (CCHL) is pleased to announce Smiths Falls Bears forward Broydon Stufko as the winner of the 2015-2016 RBC/Nielsen-Peckett Award. This award goes to the player who combines hockey excellence, academic success and a commitment to community service.

A four year combined GPA of 4.025 including a 4.24 in grade 11 attests to Broydon’s academic success in high school.   This year, Broydon also took a variety of University engineering courses part time at Carleton University where he continued to excel. He achieved an A- grade in Linear Algebra a B grade in Calculus course in the first term. In the second term his current interim marks include: A+ average (100% on first test, 96% on second test) in Differential Equations, and an A+ average (100% on first test, 99% on second test, 99% on the first lab) in his Electromagnetism Physics thus far. Broydon scored a stellar 2020 on the SAT and 32 on the ACT which placed him as one of the top in the CCHL, and in the top 98th percentile of those who took the ACT.

Broydon is also to be commended for taking part in many different volunteer experiences and impacting the community of Smiths Falls, ON. Throughout the season, he has been a fixture in weekly sessions with Special Olympians on their regular Monday  bowling nights. He was one of the veteran leaders to step up and take part in the “Smiths Falls Remembrance Day Ceremony” within the community this year.  Stufko took part in both the “Build a Mountain of Food” fundraiser as well as the “Salvation Army Kettle Bell” charity fundraisers. Broydon was also instrumental in constructing the Smiths Falls Bears float in the annual “Smiths Falls Santa Claus Parade”.  Most recently, Broydon took part in a bowling event for Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

On the ice, the Bears coaching staff applauds his efforts playing the game of hockey as honest as any player possibly can with great intensity each time he hits the ice.  His competitiveness, passion for the game and his desire to improve does not go unnoticed.  Broydon’s greatest hockey intangible is that he is a team-first player, an integral leader on and off the ice.  He is a character player who sacrifices his own personal success for the betterment of the team. The Bears speedy forward is a solid two way player who protects his own end of the ice first.  The Prescott, ON native also showed he can contribute on offence collecting 32 (16G, 16A) points in 61 regular season games this season.
